No. Community cats generally avoid people and pose no greater risk than other outdoor animals. Vaccination through TNR actually reduces disease risk.
Why not just remove the cats?
Removal does not work. New cats move in, reproduce, and the problem returns. TNR is the only proven long-term solution.
Does TNR help kittens?
Yes. TNR prevents kittens from being born outdoors. When kittens are born, early reporting allows rescues like Kitty’s Kitten Rescue to step in and help.
What is ear-tipping and is it cruel?
Ear-tipping is a painless procedure done while the cat is under anesthesia. It is the universal sign that a cat has been fixed and vaccinated, preventing unnecessary retrapping.
Can community cats live happy lives outdoors?
Yes. Cats that have lived outdoors know their territory and food sources. With TNR and caretakers, they live healthier, more stable lives.
What Do I Need To Do?
We ask that property owners and caretakers be present when we are trapping.
You will need to hold off feeding the cats on the days we are set to come out and trap.
You must have a place where you can shelter the cats after surgery until time to release.
You will need to keep traps in a safe location until pick up.
How does TNR align with Kitty's Kitten Rescue mission?
Our mission focuses on orphaned kittens and kittens in need. TNR prevents suffering before it starts, reduces the number of kittens born into danger, and allows us to focus our resources where they are needed most.
